I’m Byron and I’m doing Contemporary Arts. I chose Huddersfield mainly because of the
location and I think it’s in a great location in between Leeds, Manchester
and Sheffield so you’ve got quite a creative circle going on around Huddersfield.
There’s some great facilities here. Got an amazing library full of research, computers
and books and things. All the latest macs and software that you'll ever need. Campus
is pretty compact compared to other Universities so all your teaching time is close together
which is helpful. The best thing about my faculty would be the experience that my tutors
have, they’re practicing artists as well. You do gain a lot of experience through them.
You do get great support, great tutorial time so you can have quick chats, they’re always
around and willing to help. So, they’re great for support like that. There is an option
to do a placement year, I’m kind of doing my placement year alongside my final year.
So, I’ve got a few voluntary jobs and gaining a few odd experiences here and there, working
with artists and in galleries. The end of our third year we have an exhibition here
and then we take that down to London to Vine Street and it’s a great experience to get
down into London and start making those connections really. For me, the most enjoyable part is
definitely the people and the other artists who are around us. If someone’s interested
in this course, I would say, come and do it here.
