Stakeholder involvement and collaboration is the cornerstone of the
ACWA chemical weapons disposal program. The Governor-appointed Citizens Advisory
Commission, and its Chemical Destruction Community Advisory Board, provide many of
the opportunities for public involvement and participation.
Collaboration with local groups such as the CAC and CDCAB
is essential to achieving the mission of safe and efficient destruction of the
chemical weapons stored at the depot. Additional local program partners
include the Blue Grass Army Depot,
Blue Grass Chemical Activity,
Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program, Kentucky Department
for Environmental Protection, Kentucky Division of Emergency Management, Madison
County Emergency Management Agency, members of the Kentucky legislature and
Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass.
For nearly ten years the Blue Grass Chemical Stockpile Outreach Office has
been the prime source for providing information to the Richmond community
regarding Kentucky's chemical demilitarization efforts. The outreach
staff work in conjunction with local program partners and depot and systems
contractor public affairs staff to keep the community informed of the status of
the project.
