Singer-composer Ruia Aperahama has received
a $50,000 laureate award from the Arts Foundation.
The awards recognise the talent of NZ artists
and funding support for their career.
His musical success is unquestionable.
Now he's added another accolade to his impressive collection.
Singer and songwriter Ruia Aperahama was awarded
the $50,000 Laureate Award at the 2012 NZ Arts Awards.
It was a nice surprise
and humbling experience.
Past recipients of this award include
Moana Maniapoto and Whirimako Black.
Ruia will invest the money in a family business venture,
and he'll also use it to inspire the next generation of artists.
I'll be donating some of the award money to the Arts Foundation,
because Maori have a lot of potential in this industry,
and I want to help that side develop.
He's a great role model for the future generation.
