Welcome to Ptuj, the oldest town in Slovenia. This is Slovenski Trg, the main square, an *** of cobblestones.
It was used as a market place until 1923.
The square features the Orpheus monument, a tombstone to the 2nd Century Roman mayor.
I am standing in Ptujska Klet, one of the oldest and biggest wine cellars in Slovenia.
With 200 of these colossal oak barrels, the biggest of which is standing behind me which holds over 20.000 litres.
We are going to go and have a look at their vintage collection now, so follow me.
We are standing in the vintage collection which is one of the oldest in Europe.
The oldest bottle dates back to 1917 and it’s priceless.
The most expensive one on sale is €8000 from 1927.
About 85% of their production is white wines, especially Riesling and Sauvignon varieties.
So this is Pullus, their priced Sauvignon, winner of numerous awards including the prestigious Decanter award in London in 2010.
Let’s taste!
Dry, fresh and fruity!
