What's up, gamers? This is 16Bit Hero, and I'm here today to talk about the games that marked my childhood and maybe so did with yours!
This time we're gonna take a look at the third and final game based of the first Power Rangers saga
It's called Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Fighting Edition
and this game was released in 1995 published by... Bandai, of course!
so what does this game have to offer? let's find out!
Ok, the game starts with the Zord you pick up to fight with
when the Megazord is transformed, the extra ranger gets so pissed that fights you
and when you beat him, the other zords are going to avenge him, and the enemies from the series are also after your head!
You also gotta fight your inner demon to stop those doubts that bother you, and after winning so many battles, you fight Lord Zedd
Who's gonna use his Megazord to destroy the earth, which doesn't make any sense, considering that he's as big as any Zord, but anyway...
When you beat him, Ivan Ooze comes and destroys Zedd and he's going to get revenge for what we did him in the last game... (wasn't he dead?)
But in the end he loses again, and everyone lives happily once again!
You didn't believe what I just said, right?
This game's not about reading texts, is just fighting and that's it!
As the name says it, this game consists on the battles of the first generation's Zords against... some bosses...
Some that I don't even remember who they are!
Each villain has his/her own stage, but the Zords battle inside the Command Center
Certainly, each stage looks really defined and detailed, specially this place that looks like Las Vegas
With people walking around...
Believe me, if I saw 2 giant *** robots fighting in front of me, with a big chance of get squashed
The LAST thing I'd think to do is going to a Mall to watch movies or buy shoes!
I'd only go to play hockey!
When you start the game you can choose between the Thunder Megazord and the Mega TigerZord
And from there you'll fight against the other characters, and they're 8 in total, plus the final guy, Ivan Ooze
When you beat your enemies you'll watch this awesome scene where the enemies explode...
Like in the series!
When you lose a battle, you get game over, and you get the chance to pick once again, which Zord you wanna continue with
In battle mode you can battle with/against all the characters, besides the first two
There's the Ninja Megazord, Shogun Megazord, Lip Syncher, Silver Horns, Goldar, Lord Zedd, and the secret character, Ivan Ooze
Each character has it's own attributes, that makes them different from the others
For example, the Ninja Megazord has more agility, the Shogun Megazord is really powerful, but his speed really sucks...
Lip Syncher has a better jump, Silver Horns has a larger range attack and Ivan Ooze is the only one that can fly, but cannot defend himself...
And the Mega TigerZord can show you the finger!
And kill you with it!
And before you start the battle you can select the level of power for your character
It can be a whip... or a mothaf*cking Zangief!
There's this trial mode, which is basically fighting against all the characters plenty of times till you lose a battle
When you win you get some health, and in the end they show you the number of victories...
ehhh... Yeah, I suck
You got the option to no-display the characters' faces during the battle, instead you can see your combo hits
All right, now let's explain the battle mode. You start fighting like in any other fighting game
With the regular special abilities, the 2 out of 3 and all that stuff, But there's something that makes it more unique
This lower bar that keeps charging, each time it gets to the max and shines, if you do a special move...
It'll get powered-up and you'll do more damage
Each time you do this the bar changes colour, first it's blue, then pink then green and finally it gets all thundery...
In that moment, all your special abilites will be powered-up automatically, but this doesn't last much so you gotta take advantage of it
And what better way to do it than using the...
MAXIMUM POWER!!!
And will do massive damage to your opponent, and the lower bar will reset to zero after that, so you gotta start all over again!
The music is just extravagant! It has that rock style like the last time but with a more accelerate move to adapt to the battle, it's really cool!
The sound effects are great for a fighting game, but there are some S.E. that are used a lot, but it's fine for the situation, so it's all right!
The controls are standart for this type of games, and... well, they're pretty good!
You move normally with the arrows, speed up by pressing in the same direction twice, and jump with Up
The attacks are: light punch with Y, light weapon-attack with B heavy punch with X and heavy weapon-attack with A
You can chain your hits to do some combos, and topple your opponent
And the special abilites are... normal down forward and any of the buttons, down back and any of the buttons
And forward, down, down-forward and... any of the buttons, you can also do this dive attack with down + two buttons at the same time
And the maximun attack is down forward down forward + any... of the required buttons, melee attack or weapon-attack
Lip Syncher, besides jumping twice, can jump infinitly if you jump just after you deliver an attack in the air
And stay there till the fat lady sings!
Besides, there's the Mega TigerZord's special attack, when you're close to your enemy, press back down forward + Y or X
And you'll do this super combo that deals a lot of damage
Also, there's Lord Zedd teletransportation, which is forward down back, and depending on the button you press is the place where you'll appear
and this telepoting attack, which is back-down down down-forward plus X or Y
Sometimes there'll be clashes between the characters if they try to catch their enemy at the same time, 3 tries out of 5
Then you have to press forward fast so you can throw your enemy away
As expected, the controls are well defined, but I really don't recommend fighting with the Shogun Megazord, 'cause the f*cker is... too... slow...
But he's really strong!
This game looks really amazing! The colours are really aesthetic, and the detail on the characters, specially the Zords is really recognizable
They really did a great job making this game, comparing it to the fighting mode in the first game, this one has nothing to envy about
'cause they took that concept and developed it potentially!
Yeah, when you thought they wouldn't get more money from the Zords
This game is born
Besides, that lights show when you beat your enemy it's like going to give you seizure or something!
Too Shiny!
And you know what?
I LOVE IT!
When you're in versus mode, before choosing any character, and press...
Then you'll fight as Ivan Ooze. Now you can have fun shooting lighting at your enemies 'cause they can't reach you!
And if you wanna fight against the computer in versus mode, just press Select on the second controller...
If you don't have someone to play with
Like me!
That's not a trick in itself, but is just talking about it!
Once again, Bandai has created another exciting game that makes any who loves the series happy
This time expanding to those who stolen the show at the end of every chapter, the legendary robots!
Letting you command them as you please with much more style than ever makes this game worthy of going down in history...
as a fighting game really exciting, and awesome!
and the most important aspect in these games is the replay value, to play it again with your friends!
and this game's replay value is high for me!
Besides, of all the characters, my favourite is the Mega TigerZord, he's the more balanced one, and has plenty of abilities!
and you know? it'd be great if they'd released another game with more fighters, stages and fighting modes!
and they'd called it something original...
First of all, the Shogun Megazord is too boring! he may be the strongest and most badass and don't get affected by the TigerZord's super combo
and has a lot of defense, but still, is really annoying having to walk from one part of the stage to the other!
and everyone forgot about Alpha... yes
The poor robot didn't get love in any of these games, at least if his image'd appear somewhere
or at least in the special thanks for saying all the time...
Well, his only job was teleporting the Rangers, and... nothing else...
and maybe a more exciting ending or something, I mean, just by telling "MORPHINOMENAL!" is as worthless as saying: "You are a super gamer!"
And that's it, I don't have any other problems with the game
This is the end of the special dedicated to those heroes that entertained us
and warmed every afternoon by fighting the evil ones who wanted to conquer the world!
Those who had the power of the ancient beasts, and even if it's just a memory... that memory just gets purer and better with time!
For all the thing this game has, I'll give it...
Nine thunders out of Ten!
