This is Randall Powell for Expert Village and in this clip, I am going to show you how
to make a loop for team roping. Just like there are two different types of ropes, there
are two different types of loops used for team roping. When you are heading, you use
the smaller loop so you will just come around and when it gets to where you stop with your
hand, you just take the side of it and rotate it around and this is about the average size
of the head loop right here. It is not very big and it is easy to pick up and really light
and can be really fast with it. So the speed is the most important thing in team roping
because it is a timed event. So you use a smaller loop for heading and if you are going
to heel, you need to go one more coil and these are coils. You use one more coil if
you are going to make a heel rope and it makes a quite a bit bigger loop. When you are heeling,
you set a trap under the steers back feet so you need to have a little bigger loop and
it enhances your chances of catching the feet a little better if you have a bigger loop,
so this is how you make the loop. This is call the tail of your rope. You want to keep
as few coils in your hand as you can while you are roping. Around 4 is average so you
just hang the tail of your rope off the left side of your horse and then you rope from
the right side of your horse. Again, the heel loops are quite a bit bigger than the head
loops and you carry them on the right side of your horse and that is what you use to
build a loop for team roping.
