Hi, I'm Raziel Ungar,
and you're watching "Burlingame Buzz."
And right now we're at the Liquid Playground in San Jose,
in honor of Garrett Cortese.
Not only was he born and raised in Burlingame,
but he's also one of the most accomplished water sports
photographers in the country.
And he's accomplished more in his approximately 10-year career
than many photographers accomplish in a lifetime.
I grew up in Burlingame, California, third generation.
I've been working full-time in the wakeboarding industry
since 2005.
Alliance Wakeboard Magazine hired me then.
And I've basically just been traveling the world since then.
It's taken me to places like Tahiti, South Africa, Australia,
even up to Newfoundland to go wakeboard next to icebergs.
It's a fun combination of being able to go out
and to shoot the photos,
and then come back and write the story and pick out where
you want the photos to go and how you want them to run.
Growing up in Burlingame was awesome.
Going to Burlingame High School really fueled my passion
for photography.
I was lucky enough to work on the yearbook,
starting my freshmen year.
That really just, sort of, sparked my passion
for wanting to do photography professionally.
Tonight we're doing our third exhibit,
called "Within the Wake."
And we're actually featuring a very native's photography,
Garrett Cortese.
Really excited about that.
I've always been a big fan of his work
through Alliance Magazine.
And now seeing it in print form inside my shop
is something amazing.
I'm Trever Maur, pro wakeboarder,
out here visiting Garrett Cortese in San Jose.
The photo's unreal.
Like, every single photo here is just insane.
Garrett's super easy to work with.
He shot my first photo that was published.
It meant a lot to me because I was finally in a magazine.
That's what you work for your whole life.
Garrett's the man in photo world.
He's huge.
And wakeboarding, you look at the magazine and you almost see,
like, his name on so many of the shots.
If you shoot with Garrett, you know you're getting a good shot.
