Hello I'm Mike Russell from MusicRadioCreative.com. This is my first ever video tutorial so be
kind go easy on me and if you like it leave a nice comment and i'll do some more. Today
I'm gonna tell you my top 3 favourite effects in Adobe Audition 3.0 for radio idents. If
you want to make some good idents my top 3 recommendations now the best news is they're
all very easy they're presets so they're all included in the software no messing about,
no typing in numbers, changing displays and graphs you just have to follow these very
simple steps.
Now the first step I'm gonna show you is on this first voice over that i've prepared earlier.
Just go into effects and modulation and the first effect is the flanger effects go in
there effect preset go up to the top it's aural all your numbers and bits are preset
there click OK and you'll notice it just quietens down the wave a little bit so you might want
to remedy that by going to effects amplitude and compression, normalize, normalize it to
a 100% and that will take your wav back up to where it was then let's click play "this
is aural flanger" you can hear that lovely smooth sweepy effect that you get that sweeps
from side to side and gives you a real nice stereo effect so a very well used in radio
sweepers all over the world and of course now you know how to do it. Effects, modulation,
flanger, and the preset is aural.
For the next piece, I'm gonna select the second voice over that I did go in to effects and
again yes it's modulation one of my favourite parts of Adobe Audition this time the chorus
effect let's go in there go for the default effect preset that's pretty much the first
option you'll have so no need to worry about any changes here just click OK when you've
applied the filter you'll notice the wave goes down a little bit. It quietens down because
of the effect so just go back to amplitude and compression normalize to 100% and you're
back where you started but with a really cool effect. Have a listen to this "this is the
default chorus setting" I love this one because you can hear a slightly different sound from
each speaker. The left and right speaker when you combine those you get a really powerful
stereo effect for your radio idents. I always find it's quite a good effect when you're
trying to say something with impact like "we're the best radio station in the world" or "we've
got more listeners than anyone else in the area at 9pm when the late show's on" that
kind of thing. So go and use it. It's a great effect and I use it all the time.
My final effect is different from stereo imagery you'll be please to know something slightly
different effects time and pitch what I'm going to do is I'm gonna change this voice
over so it sounds like one of those record decks in the old days of radio. And the record
deck is coming to a halt and it's starting to slow down and go o o o down but I'm not
gonna try and impersonate it and actually going to do it.
There are two methods to do this. One that I wouldn't recommend so much is the stretch
and you can see I already preset it there there's a nice preset cutting power but you
can see the final percentage is 500 which is way too much and it will just sound stupid.
So maybe take it down to 200 percent but even still at that setting you're gonna start sounding
like a little bit Frank Bruno after a while so I would cancel out of that and to get a
smoother more transitional effect time and pitch, pitch bender and the nice thing about
this is you can actually see what you'll hear the preset is turntable losing power and in
this you can see the voice is gonna go along okay and around about here around about 2
seconds its gonna start slowing down and gradually towards the end at about 4 seconds it's just
gonna come into a halt right there. It's gonna sound really good so click OK and have a listen
to this "This is one of my favourites cutting the power". A great quirky effect that you
can apply to some of your more adventurous radio idents and have fun creating radio sweepers,
radio jingles and stay tuned because I'm gonna be creating more video tutorials especially
if you like this one give me some feedback maybe some stuff you'd like to learn about
Adobe Audition 3.0 and of course there's more tips, tricks news and blogs on MusicRadioCreative.com
