Movember started maybe seven years ago
It stared in Australia with a few guys and it was kind of a joke and they thought
Let's grow mustaches throughout the month of November. We have to start clean shaven at beginning of the month.
Let's grow mustaches throughout the month and people will contribute money for us to keep it.
so it started out really small and people caught wind of it
It was one of those things where people kept saying, "What you doing, what are you doing"?
Last year they raised forty million dollars.
In one year.
So this year, I managed to convince these guys to do it.
Yup.
The reactions are quite different. I have actually gotten a lot of support from friends.
I meet up with a group of
friends a couple of weeks ago at a
card game and they couldn't stop
staring at it.
Basically its been good support. My wife will just make fun of it.
My daughter, who is fifteen, will make fun of it too. She wants to know when it will be shaved off.
But overall- here it has been just fine. What has been interesting, is walking across campus and people I have not seen in a while.
I have haven't had a mustache in many, many years. But they will do a double take.
Or have a strange look like there something's different they don't know what.
I've had a couple people, who have not seen me in a while, who have said," Oh, you are growing that for Movember
Before I even said anything. Jeff: Same with me
And maybe you are just looking around thinking, "Hey, maybe that person is involved and I notice on campus some of the students
have a table out there promoting it. The Statesmen ran an article about it the other day. So you are starting to see it more-
I think the Today Show did something about it.
Rob: How much money will you give me?
In a little trinket box.. after I shave it off.. tomorrow.
I am threatening to keep it for December and then come in with a full goatee. We will see what happens tomorrow.
I think i'll be shaving it off.
I'll definitely be shaving it off.
