Eros and Shriveled Abstraction
We met, And felt that immediate cathexis,
So rare, So purely distilled from mundane being.
We spoke, And talked of nothing yet learned everything
Of life As it relates one man to one woman.
Our hopes, Growing with each word, each subtle gesture.
Each look Peeling off the husk of propriety.
At last. Words admit what hearts have known all along.
We agree That soon we must be together as one.
...We meet. Now, passions of the past are held at bay,
Cautious Of mutual vulnerability.
We speak. But now it's the dance of parry and thrust.
Of life, Fettered by society's stringent codes.
Our hopes, Dimming, as we compare pedigrees,
Each look, Disdainful of the other's politics.
Our lives, Running fast in opposite directions.
Our choice, To hold abstract concepts not of our making.
At last, Words admit what minds have known all along.
We agree That what is real, cannot possibly be.
