CHAOTIC CHRONICLES
One should know that the storm chaser eats very healthy food.
*Ironic link to a french nutrition website*
Here we are, in quiet fields, 20km south of Châlon-sur-Saône
to watch the convection.
My bet is that the bunch of clouds we see over there
will eventually strenghten enough to become a thunderstorm
and then it would progress eastward.
As I expected, things start to look interesting just in front of me.
with the first (very) small anvil.
The cell I've been watching has really expanded.
The south edge is the most interesting
so I have to drive towards Lons-le-Saunier.
Still the same cell.
It really, really is strengthening now.
Nice hail curtain there.
Big hail is coming !
We have a spinning wall-cloud here.
Not very well structured but I should keep watch over it.
I think we have a funnel.
So, the cell slipped through my hands
weakening now over Besançon.
But on the other side, we see a new storm coming.
This cell comes from the Puy-de-Dôme
so it covered more than 200 kilometres.
ENCOUNTER WITH A NATIVE
"What the f*** are you doing in the middle of our path?"
It takes only ten seconds !
"You should learn how to park, *** !"
What a nice guy!
Here comes the time when I destroy my car...
Time to review the damages.
Here is what just fell on my car.
I think those are about 5cm (2") large.
Small dent here
A few marks but not too many.
An other one here...
Behind, we see the anvil from the next storm to come.
I feel like we're not over with fun for tonight.
Very intense lightning inside this one.
9PM
Very big hail again !
Holy cow !
I've just found a nice specimen
I think it reaches 7 or 8 centimetres (3+ inches).
I've never seen hailstones that big in France.
