During tough times there's nothing more important for your State government to be doing than
creating jobs, saving jobs,
and improving the conditions that allow small businesses and large businesses
to create and save jobs.
That's why we've set the goal of creating, saving, or placing Maryland residents
into 250,000 jobs by the end of 2012.
Narrator: Under Governor O'Malley's leadership
Maryland continues to drive economic progress by creating the Small Business Credit Recovery Program
to open access to credit for Maryland's entrepreneurs.
Creating the Job Creation and Recovery Tax Credit,
which provides Maryland businesses with a $5,000 tax credit
for every unemployed Marylander it hires.
And recently announcing Investment Maryland,
an initiative to restore venture capital investments in Maryland
creating thousands of jobs and hundreds of millions in economic impact in our State's innovation economy.
Governor O'Malley: Not long ago we broke ground for a new, wider
fifty-foot birth at the Port of Baltimore.
That was the product of a public-private partnership
that will create 5,700 new jobs at modern port facilities that can accommodate the
world's largest ships.
We're also coordinating the relocation, creation, and expansion of
more than 60,000 jobs that are coming to Maryland
because of the base realignment and closure process.
By taking advantage of our proximity
to the Federal Government and national labs,
we're also pushing for the expansion of Federal facilities in our State
to bring more than 25,000 jobs to Maryland.
We're also supporting,
through are rebuilding of roads, schools, and bridges and other infrastructure,
60,000 jobs through our State's capital budget.
Our state is one of only eight that still has a AAA Bond Rating.
We're also placing more than 224,000 Maryland job seekers
into jobs through the services they receive at are One-Stop centers throughout our State,
as well as job training
and other programs.
We're creating or retaining 10,000 jobs each year through efforts at our
Department of Business and Economic Development
and thousands of Marylanders are employed today
thanks to President Obama's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
which supported 13,000 jobs in the most recent quarter,
and that's just the beginning.
There is no government program that is as important or as empowering to a family as a job,
and there's no place more powerful than a family home,
and nothing more important for keeping that home than a job.
So, we need to continue to focus on the future
creating more jobs.

Thanks a lot.
