Willie Jackson is going to court
to challenge the appointment process for the Auckland City Council's
Independent Maori Statutory Board.
Jackson wasn't successful
in contesting for one of the two places reserved
for Maori who are not mana whenua.
One place went to Tony Kake,
current CEO of Papakura Marae.
Jackson is requesting the court
to overturn Kake's appointment
and that either the process be started again
or the Minister of Maori Affairs be granted the option
to appoint a new representative.
