Hello.
I'm Michael Coteau, Ontario Minister of Citizenship and
Immigration.
On March 21, people around the world are observing the
International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
On March 21, 1960, police in Sharpeville, South Africa shot and
killed 69 people in a were peacefully demonstrating.
That horrific day inspired the United Nations to proclaim an
annual day calling on the international community to strengthen
efforts to end racial discrimination.
We are fortunate to live in a province that places a high value
on equality and diversity, in both spirit and law.
Ontario's diversity is our strength.
Today is an opportunity for all Ontarians to reflect on what we
can do as a province, as community and, as individuals to end
racial discrimination.
