I'm Bruce Marshall, fashion designer and Emmy award nominated costume designer, here to
talk to you today about dressing for a black tie event. Now for gentleman you must understand
that even though it says black tie it doesn't necessarily mean that you have to wear only
a black tie. Usually it is a combination of a jacket, you can go as formal as a formal
tuxedo even or you can do just a basic black suit which also works. You don't necessarily
have to have a white shirt underneath, it can be a shirt of any color but basically
the idea is you want to dress it up because black tie is the most formal of all occasions
be it weddings, premieres, you name it black tie is the way to go and also you can do what
they call white tie which is the same thing but your jacket is white instead of black
and as a gentleman you should always have a nice little flower to put in our boot and
to make it a boutinere and put right here in your lapel and that always just adds that
extra little touch that just makes it so special for the evening. So never forget again when
you are dressing up for an event such as this a black tie event you still always want to
be comfortable and you always want to show your own individual style so never wear too
much, keep it pretty much classic, be that James Bond character you always wanted to
be. Now even though we are talking about a Black Tie Event which sometimes seems a little
bit uncomfortable for people there's no reason why your clothes need to be so basically make
sure comfort comes first in natural fibers that breath and also make sure that you have
on the most comfortable shoes that you know and basically if you have something that is
kind of traditional and you have got the point with the flares then you are pretty much good
to go because those are the kind of shoes that you want to be in comfortable, black
but always elegant. That is after all what we're talking about when we talk about the
top level of dressing and that is Black Tie Gentleman.
