During the winter break while other students were enjoying time off, the PSU Spirit Squad
was in full swing preparing for the 2011 Universal College Cheerleading National Championship
in Orlando, Florida. For head coach Linda Graham, being selected to compete in the event,
is a great honor. Linda Graham-“It’s an amazing honor to
get to go. We represent Pittsburg State. We represent the town of Pittsburg and when we
walk in everyone knows that the Gorillas are in the house.”
Pitt State is one of twelve NCAA Division two squads to be selected for this year’s
competition and it marks their sixteenth year competing in this event. From the excitement
of getting an invitation, to the fact that the competition will be taped and aired to
a national audience on ESPN has really gotten the squad fired up.
Travis Faught-“We’re ecstatic to be invited to come down there. I mean to prove ourselves,
and you know, we want to really represent Pittsburg State and make sure you know, that
everything goes really well and we look good for them.”
Having won first place in 2001 and placing 4th in 2006, the PSU Spirit Squad is ready
to get back on center stage and bring home another championship.
Linda Graham-“I mean, I know they’re tired. I know they’re beat up a little bit and
yea, they’re just excited and ready to go.” Travis Faught-“We’ve hit the routine many
many times, now it’s just, we’re ready to go prove ourselves.”
