Hi, my name is Betty Ann Thomas and I work for the Office of Planning and Assessment
at Texas Tech University. This is another in a set of short videos to help you learn
more about iPortfolios. In this video we are going to learn how to prepare your resume
in Chalk and Wire. If you prefer, you can prepare your resume using another format (such
as Word), and still load it into your iPortfolio in Chalk and Wire. But I am going to show
you how to specifically prepare it in Chalk and Wire.
So, first of all we are going to go to the Internet and I will walk you through the process,
then we will go back and go through the slides a little slower.
Whenever you login to Chalk and Wire, you’ll notice over here, it has your name and a little
drop down arrow. If you click on that, you will see a drop down and choose “My Profile.”
Then choose “Profile Actions” and choose “Edit Profile.” Before we edit
your resume (or enter your resume), we are going to enter some information into your
profile. Add as much information here as you would like—obviously don’t put anything
in there that you’re not interested in having there, and then “Save” your profile. Then,
come back up here and click on “My Resume,” and the “Resume Editor” will appear.
I have already entered some information in a resume for you, and I want to show that, as
you type over here, the information will automatically appear on the right side of the screen. So
if I take out Administrator, it automatically is deleted. And if I type it back in, it automatically
adds it back in, in this spot. It’s formatted as Chalk and Wire has it set up. So you can
see that there is quite a bit of different information that you can add here, all of
your personal information. By the way, “Region” means “State.” Be sure that you don’t
get confused by that title there. If you have a Facebook or Twitter account you want to
note here, or a URL. Then you’ll get down to the “Work” area. I’ve entered several
there. Then we come down to “Volunteer” if you have anything you’d like to enter
there. I haven’t entered anything there, myself. Then “Education;” I’ve got a
couple of things on that one. Then “Awards,” “Publications,” “Skills,” “Languages,”
“Interests,” and finally “References.” So those are all the different areas that
you can add into a resume in Chalk and Wire. I would also like you to notice that below each of
these main category headings, there are buttons “Add” and “Remove.” If you click the
“Add” it will give you all the information you can put into that area. And, say you’ve
already put in one publication and you’d like to put in another publication, simply
click the “Add” button that is right above the next category, and there will be another
area that you can add information into for publications. Since I don’t really have
any of that, I’m going to go ahead and delete it. There’s the publications; just go ahead
and delete that. And I think I’ve got as much as I’d like to put in my resume there.
So I’m going to “Save Resume” and it says it’s been saved. Then, in order to
get it into your portfolio in Chalk and Wire, you’ll need to download it as a PDF.
So if you click on that and wait—it might take a little bit longer than you would expect—but
just be patient and it will take care of it.
Once it downloads, it’s a little hard to see over here. But, there is the resume
downloaded to your hard drive. I’m going to save it in a little bit easier place to find.
I’ll open it, (and anyway I kind of wanted to see what it looked like as a PDF, so there it is)
and if I right click as my mouse in on the document, I’ll click “Save as…,” and
then I’m going to save it to my desktop. I think the name “Resume” is fine and
it will be saved as an Adobe document. So, I just click “Save” and now I have it
on my desktop. So that is how you actually go into Chalk
and Wire and prepare your resume. Now I’ll walk through it a little bit slower,
step-by-step. First of all, login to Chalk and Wire and click on the little down arrow
next to your name at the far right top of the screen.
Choose the drop down next to “Profile Actions.” Choose “Edit Profile.”
Complete all the information you would like to on the form. Then click “Save Profile.”
Now we want to actually enter information into your Chalk and Wire resume.
Choose “My Resume” which is back up by the “My Profile” button you selected earlier.
The “Resume Editor” will appear. You can fill in as much information as you would like.
As you type in information, it will appear in the screen at the right and will be formatted
as Chalk and Wire has set it up. Under each category, you can add as many subcategories
as you would like. Just click the “Add” button before the next category.
When you are finished entering information, click “Save Resume.” In order to get your
resume on a page of your portfolio, you will also need to click “Download as PDF.”
Your resume will download as a .pdf on your hard drive under the “Downloads” area.
I recommend that you save your resume to your desktop (or anywhere that is easy for you
to find.) Do this by clicking on the drop down next to the .pdf of your resume, click
open, and… …then “Save as…”
… and choose a name or just go with the default “Resume,” and click “Save.”
And that’s how you prepare your resume in Chalk and Wire.
I recommend that you view the video “How can I load my resume on a page of my iPortfolio” next.
Thank you!
