I know it's quite awkward but I found a job as au pair.
I was taking my own decisions. I didn't depend of my parents anymore. I could do whatever
I want by myself.
At the beginning it was very weird. I didn't really like look after a kid before. So, here
was... What should I do?
I had a lot of pressure from my family. They said it was terrible that I was gonna start
in job in the morning instead of, you know, focusing in the College and they said if I
started doing that I wouldn't ever change my mind and I would stay doing that forever.
I said because like this is a solution, you know? Because a wanna have to pay rent , I
wanna have to pay food and I have to look after a kids .
So, it was a very nice experience. I would recommend.
I saved some money when I was working as au pair and I started working here at reception.
I remember that my first class was with Miss Rosa. She said "What is your name? What is
your age?" And I was like "What? What she say?"
My classmates from Brazil they had to speak in Portuguese to me be able to understand.
I was a little bit awkward because I said ok I came here to study English and now I
have to understand Portuguese to be able to express myself.
Now I have friends from France, from Italy, from America. You can meet a lot of people
from different countries, it's such a nice experience but sometimes when you don't have
a very good level of English that could be a barrier, you know, because you wouldn't
be able to express yourself. I definitely believe that it's necessary to have, you know,
people from your country around to help you.
Sometimes I feel like "Oh! If I was in Venezuela I would, you know, about finishing college
and that make me feel a little bit sad. And then when I think about, you know, well, it's
not like my English is perfect but I'm able to speak it and I'm doing College here and
I know a lot of doors will be open for me if I have a degree from here.
I will always be really grateful about Seda. I started here. They helped me to improve
my English. They helped me to get confidence to myself. I love Seda. I have to say it,
like they helped so much they still do.
Now, I'm trying to go to college here. I've never expected that. I've never expected to
live here by myself and go to college.
