You may be a kid, a parent of a kid or maybe you're a coach of a young basketball team
and you're looking for free basketball drills. If you're one of the following, I'm happy
to inform you that there are many accessible free drills online that you can use.
When choosing basketball drills for kids, you want to make sure you choose drills that
your kids will either enjoy or really benefit from. For example the mikan drill may be very
boring for kids but it is beneficial to them because they will learn the importance of making lay-ups.
Then you have drills such as the around the world drill. This drill consists of shooting
three-point shots from the corners, wings, and the top of the three-point line. This
drill can be very fun for a kid because, kids love to shoot the basketball and that is the main
focus of this drill. Basketball drills can also be made up. If
your child is struggling with ball handling or shooting you can take an existing drill
and customize it to your kids needs. A drill that I notice a lot of kids enjoy
is the crossover drill. In this workout the youth basketball team coach had cones set
up and the kids would dribble the ball to each cone and perform a crossover dribble in front
of it. Many kids had problems with this drill so my coach would have them stand in front
of the cone and perform 50 crossover dribbles until they were able to do a crossover drill.
Then once they were able to do that he had them try to complete the original drill again.
This is a good example of customizing a drill for a child's needs.
Like I said before you want to choose basketball workouts that your kids will either enjoy
or get a huge benefit from. The best drills are both fun and effective which makes the
drill very beneficial for kids. Finding the right ball handling, shooting, rebounding,
defense, and other drills can be a difficult task. The good thing is you have two things
you can look at when you're choosing basketball drills for kids.
Always remember to look at the fun side of a drill and think if you were a kid would
you enjoy the drill. If not, then you shouldn't have kids doing this kind of drill because
they won't enjoy it and it won't naturally improve their basketball skills.
You have to find drills that your kids or kid will be able to do and then once they
are able to do those drills you will need to find more advanced drills.
You can start with ball handling. If you decide to go this route, you'll need one ball handling
program that includes a system of drills that keeps advancing as your kids get better.
