Today i want to talk about the different types of glues i´m using,
because people quite often ask me which ones i´m using, how they work and which are best for certain purposes.
Let´s start with the most important one: Revell Contacta Professional.
That is the one i´m using to assemble these plastic models.
The glue features a thin needle which allows me to apply even tiny amounts of glue,
without making a big mess like it would be the case if i use a tube glue.
I highly recommend to buy such a glue because it works great.
There are different types from several brands available, like the pink one from UHU.
Unfortunately i can´t show you this one right now.
However this glue is not suitable for gluing clear parts.
The clear parts will run up and this does not look good.
This happens because of the dissolver in the glue that welds the plastic parts together.
Both parts become soft and fuse to one part.
Actually the glue is not holding the parts together, but fuses the parts permanently.
For clear parts i use Revell Contacta Clear. It features a brush to apply the glue.
In my opinion this glue is not perfect, it does not work very good for aircraft canopies and such things.
It has not very much adhesive power.
This glue is great for assembling headlamps and such small things,
but it is not suitable for big and heavy parts.
A thing you definately need is superglue.
You can use ordinary superglues which are available in every stationary shop.
In the past i used UHU superglue, but it is very expenisve and not very copious.
I found this superglue here recently, it does not dry up in the bottle, it has a big volume and costs 3€.
What else do you need?
It is called MxBon 601 "Surface insensitive".
It dries quite slowly which is perfect for assembling photo-etch parts.
The parts won´t be sticky as hell and so have time to position the parts correctly.
Great product, it works fine for assembling white metal figures aswell.
The glue can bear even pretty heavy parts. Other glues work fine aswell.
I have another superglue here, the 105 "High Performance".
I had not much opportunities to use this one because it is infernal stuff.
The glue is almost dry when it leaves the bottle and it is sticky as hell.
When i opened the bottle the first time the glue was squirting out of the bottle like a volcanic eruption and it poured all over my hand.
This glue literally dries within one second.
It is not suitable for model building.
You should use an ordinary superglue or a slow drying one.
Finally wood glue, in this case Tesa wood glue express, it dries quite quickly.
It is perfect for building dioramas, it can hold styrofoam, wood, earth, sand and grass in place.
It is my all-purpose adhesive so to say.
The glue is relatively beneficial and has good adhesive power.
You can thin it with water, very versatile.
I use Ponal express aswell, but to be honest i don´t see any differences between those two products.
You can mix them together, it seems to be the same stuff.
I assume Tesa and Ponal are not available in every country, i heard a lot about Elmer´s which is the same stuff aswell.
If you buy wood glue you have to make sure that you get one which dries transparent, otherwise it looks stupid.
Finally i want refer to a very good video from SvinehundenVlog.
He made a video about using glue properly, he uses wood glue to demonstrate how it works and how you should use it.
He says that these rules apply to all types of glue.
I will try to add this video to the video answers below because it adds a lot to my video here.
I hope you learned something new and we will meet again in the next video, your Hamilkar Barkas.
