Aqua Pure AP817-2 Hey everyone, Aquaman here with FilterDoctor.com.
Today we’re looking at the Aqua Pure AP817-2. This is an industry standard size cartridge
approximately 20 inches long by 4 ½ inches in diameter, which means it’s going to fit
into a vast array of industry standard size whole house filter housings, like for example,
the popular 20BB. Now, the AP817-2 is a 25 micron radial flow,
granular activated carbon filter. The radial flow construction provides for greater flow
and less pressure loss than typical GAC cartridges. It does this by sandwiching a layer of granular
activated carbon between two layers of polypropylene. This increases the surface area that the water
has to flow through and that gives a lower pressure loss.
The cartridge is NSF Standard 42 certified for materials and Aqua Pure internal testing
has certified the cartridge captures sediment at 25 microns and reduces chlorine taste and
odor. It is also FDA CFR21 Standard certified. Now, filter life is approximately 70,000 gallons
for chlorine reduction, however, if you don’t have a pre-filter and you have a sediment
issue, you’ll probably clog the cartridge before the carbon is truly exhausted and you
won’t get that full 70,000 gallons. So, pre-filter before this filter in order to
get the full 70,000 capacity out of the carbon. Again, this is the Aqua Pure AP817-2, and
