We started to, just onesies and twosies,
come back up until the point
where my warrant started performing buddy aid on me,
patching my wounds up.
I was coughing up a little bit of blood at that time,
and our team sergeant was getting accountability:
"Where's so-and-so? Where's so-and-so?"
Finally, we had accountability of everybody, minus Sergeant Miller.
We knew he was about 50 meters ahead of our element at that point.
We had a visual of his location,
and we kind of just sent in the support by fire element
to overwatch that location.
His gunfire continued.
We could hear him continuing to engage, continuing to engage,
and some of the stories after coming back here to the rear--
because I had gotten MEDEVACed out of country,
MEDEVACed back here to the States--
but talking to the guys when they returned, for some reason the guys were bounding back.
And we're never going to know the answer to this question.
Sergeant Miller was bounding forward towards the insurgent positions
with his 249 engaging positions.
And why he did that, my personal opinion, I think he wanted to provide that extra firepower
for his buddies to get out of the kill zone.
And again, I don't know if to this day--maybe when we meet our maker
and I get to sit down and talk to him,
but that's just one of the mysteries.
I mean, knowing Sergeant Miller, why he did what he did,
to this day we don't know, but he moved forward, we moved back.
He saved lives. I mean, he saved lives that day.
