Hello. My name is Brian Smith, and I work at the
Prairie Area Library System, or PALS. PALS is one of nine regional library systems
in Illinois. WeÕre a government agency funded by the Illinois
State Library, and our job is to provide services to libraries of all types within our region.
One of the most important things we do for library users is delivery.
If you have a library card Ð I keep mine on my keychain Ð you can ask a librarian
to get a book, CD, or DVD sent over from another library.
You may be able to request things online, too.
Hundreds of libraries are in PALS, and our vans deliver an average of more than 25000
items every day. HereÕs what we dropped off at just a few
This is Betty Beatty, interlibrary loan librarian from the Dixon Public Library, on Wednesday,
February 10, Shapshot of Public Library Day, and we received 27 items in our interlibrary
loan tub today.
What is your name? My name is Megan.
And how may bins did we get on February 9th? On Tuesday, we got 19 bins.
And what library are you working at? I work at the Joliet Public Library Black
Road Branch.
Hi, this is United Township High School Library. We received two big blue bins of books today,
coming in on interlibrary loan. 53 total, 28 coming in for our students to check out,
and 25 coming back to us to reshelve.
Hi. This is the Homer Township Library, part of the PALS library system. Today we received
68 items from our interlibrary loan. That is equivalent to eight bins.
We received 19 items today. Books, and videos, and others to come the rest of the week.
This is the Highland Community College Library. We got 32 items in our PALS delivery today.
The van delivery service is the lifeblood of the library. The Woodstock Public Library
receives 80 to 100 books, DVDs, and other materials from other libraries daily.
Hi. My nameÕs Judy. Welcome to the Plainfield Public Library, and this is what we normally
receive on a daily basis for courier delivery. This morning we had twelve bins that came
in through the system, and now we are processing 227 items, five of them are interlibrary loans
from outside our system, and the remainder are the items that are going from other libraries
to our patrons here at beautiful Plainfield.
Hi, this is the North Suburban Library. We got 13 bins delivered in our PALS run today.

Hi, this is Robert Rowe Library, and we received 25 items from PALS today.
Rock Island Public Library, and today we had delivered 120 items that were delivered by
the PALS delivery van, and they were in 9 bins this morning.
This is the Morris Area Public Library, and we received 155 books today from PALS.
Hellow. This is Fountaindale Public Library in Bolingbrook, Illinois, and PALS delivered
10 bins to us today. ItÕs Wednesday, February 10th, and itÕs Snapshot Day. And here are
our books.
