Belfast Castle was built by the third Marquess of Donegal and was
completed in
1870 and it was estimated to cost around
£11, 000 for the completion.
The castle has been used as a conference and banqueting centre since 1934
when it was taken over by Belfast Corporation which later became
Belfast City Council. Belfast Castle is set four hundred feet above sea level
in north Belfast and we have fabulous views
out over Belfast Lough.
It's absolutely breathtaking and on a good day you can see as far as Newtonards.
Down through the years the castle has become synonymous with weddings
not just receptions, but the ceremonies themselves.
Upstairs there are private dining facilities catering for parties from as few as 15
people.
There are smaller rooms on the third floor, the Ben Madigan,
the Ashley, and the Fisherwick. And there's the main ballroom
which caters for corporate dinners, weddings, parties and engagements of up to 160 people.
Menus which reflect all tastes can be found
on the website.
The Castle Gardens landscaped in 1990 with the feline
theme. There are 9 references to cats throughout,
some are not so easy to find.
We keep a map at reception but let people go out first and have a
look around and see how they get on.
So we have tourists, and children and they have a great time just
running the garden trying to find
all of the cats.
A family favourite at Belfast Castle is the adventure playground,
which caters for children from three years old to fourteen.
One of the most unusual shops in Belfast is located within the Celler of the
Castle.
It's very popular with tourists we can just browse.
or buy anything from a postcard to art and antiques.
And there's so much more,
visitors are welcome to go upstairs and learn about the history of the castle
and the surrounding area.
There's even a roof mounted camera which can survey the fauna and flora
of the Cavehill Country Park and Belfast Lough beyond.
If you're looking for a special occasion or family day out full of history and
beautiful scenery,
Belfast Castle is the perfect venue.
