Hello, my name is Officer Glenda Bowie, and I am here at the University of Memphis Law
School. Uh, there is two very important numbers that you need to remember, and one would be
the front desk here is 678-4075. Also, the police dispatcher, if I am not at the desk,
can reach me on my radio at 678-4357. If you would, please program those numbers in your
cell phones, so it will be readily available. Now some issues we need to talk about at the
Law School would be the safety of the Law School, which encompasses the building, the
personnel and the students. Police officers will be on premises 24/7 and 365 days a year.
The security desk is here in the front lobby. We are a secured access building, and it will
require your ID card, and you must wear that at all times. All the visitors that come in
the building must check in at the front desk to sign in and wear a sticker throughout the
building. Police officers at night and on the weekends will provide an escort to your
car. Another situation with the building is please do not prop any outside doors open
so we will remain a secure building and people can not gain access to the building. Lost
and found. If you find something in the building that does not seem to have an owner at the
time, please bring it to the front desk, or if you lose something, please come and check
with us, we will probably have it. If there is an emergency, please contact the front
desk. Whether it is a medical emergency or it is, uh, going to be a weather alert, you
need to go to the basement, that is the meeting place when there is a weather emergency. If
a fire alarm goes off, please exit the building immediately. There will be directions you
will hear verbally to leave the building, so please exit. Another situation here at
the Law School, we have parking issues. Now you will need to get your own parking. There
are no student parking on the premises around the law school. The U of M marked spaces are
for the people who have a posted and paid permit to park at that location. That includes
all the way around the building, and the south side of Court Street. Please refer to the
information in your admissions packet for all the garages in the area here within about
two to three blocks of the building. Please get that done before August 14th, because
after that you will be very busy doing law stuff. Now we are in the downtown area, so
please be aware of your surroundings at all times. Another thing for the good of the order
is please do not give money to the panhandlers in the downtown area. They will become aggressive.
If you do not, if you want to help them, we have a public action law society, and that
is headed up by Holly Brewer Palmer, so if you will contact her, she will help you help
the people in the downtown area. One last thing, the safety and security of the building
is everyone's job. If I have your help, then we can maintain a safe and secure building.
Thank You.
