The market was created with the idea
of selling directly from producer to consumer.
And it was like all beginnings,
we used to shout when the first costumer showed up
Now it gets so busy that it's difficult to walk around here
We do all our shopping, for all my family
only in the ecological market.
Why? Because I know everything they use.
And these days, there are more and more pesticides, more powerful.
So we lose track of the poisons that are normally used
We started to work with chemical agriculture,
with agrochemicals,
That was by the end of the 70s.
We fell right into the Green Revolution.
But we saw that it was an unsustainable path.
both for our health, which already had some problems
by intoxication. I had a serious problem.
The soil also began to no longer respond.
It is a completely unsustainable path.
We are of Japanese origin.
My father is Japanese, he came from Japan in 1958.
We used to grow garlic in large quantities for supermarkets
and we used a lot of pesticides.
and a member of our family got sick from this poison.
So, from then on, we changed completely.
I see that there are a lot of farmers
who even learned from us how to use the poison
because we were reference in the region.
Most continued on that path,
And we woke up and went looking for information,
looking for another way.
And at the time there was little information.
The information that existed was mostly almost ideological,
something that was more like a dream than properly about how to do it,
about technology and techniques.
Most people change when they have
a health problem or something like that.
We didn't have that.
We got out before that.
Before we had any of these problems

Working with convencional agriculture
one gets a little more irritated than normal.
With organic agriculture one gets much more calm.

One advantage I see is that I am
since 91, now in June it completes 20 years
that I work with organic agriculture.
And in those 20 years I didn't need to take not even an aspirin.
So, is there a bigger advantage than that?
Then one realizes that quality of life
is not material goods.
quality of life is really personal welfare.
We buy juice, tomato sauce, jams,
and all containers are returned to them,
we don't keep anything.
We are certified by the Ecovida network.
which is registered with the ministry of agriculture.
and this group has chosen participatory certification.
It is a network,
the farmer takes care of the farmer.
We cannot allow anyone to do it wrong
otherwise everyone will suffer possible consequences.
And I consider that a very special method
because it allows all the farmers in the group to get to know each other.
and that creates trust.
For me, certification is when I look the farmer in the eyes.
As we visit the farmer and know what they have in the property,
if it's balanced, socially fair,
the water is preserved, the springs,
the woods, the trees, the animals ...
Well, than I'm sure that the product really is green.
I've already visited almost all producers of the market,
and I'll come back to visit them, not just me but a whole group of consumers, so
I may be wrong once, but the whole group everytime?

I made friends, many friends here,

Me having a relationship with the farmers,
knowing them

have much respect for their work.
And they can see that, in our eyes,
