We’ve prepared a 2010-11-budget plan that was shared with the university community in
which we plan for a 9.5% enrollment reduction and as a result of that we have to take
numerous steps. Included in plan is the elimination of 46 positions, both management and
staff.
We will begin notification of individual employees who are impacted. I deeply regret that
it’s been necessary for us to take this action.
However, if we don’t act now the potential of our having to impact more employees in
the future is even greater. Therefore we’ve built a plan for 2010-11. The complete plan,
can be found at the website before you, that essentially would provide for us a balanced
budget as we reduce enrollment by 9.5 percent. It is very important that we work though
this that we all work together and help those that are impacted by these very difficult
decisions. But at the same time begin to prepare for our new academic year so that as
students return on August 23 we are ready to serve them.
I thank the entire University Community for their cooperation this year in recognizing
that our plan does not include furloughs for the coming year. I believe we can be prepared
to serve students in August as they return to us.
