Here comes Christmas!
Hi! Last week I shared across my social networks a picture of a teddy beard I made.
It seems that you liked it, and I was asked to do a video showing how to do it
So I gave it a try, recording the process of another one! This is what it looks like.
The first thing to do is the pattern for our bear.
I'd like you to make your own pattern...
but if you'd like to do it just the way I do...
I'll put a picture of the pattern in the description box below.
Think that you'll have to sew and then flip it all up
It has to fit from an open side of it, in this case, the bottom part (its legs).
it's wide enough so the head and everything fits.
Once our pattern is done, it's time to cut it out.
You may want to add margin to the borders
When sewing, you'll take a chunk off the pattern, so it's good to add some millimeters here.
Now let's cut the fabric with the help of our pattern
This is plush fabric, the back has a soft velvet touch on it
I bought it in a fabric store, but I'm sure you'll be able to find something like this
in haberdasheries or just wandering around your city.
We'll mark the pattern's shape on our fabric
two times, as we'll sew two sides together.
One side upwards, the other one downwards, so they fit together well, being a little bit asymmetrical.
Once we have both parts marked, it's time to cut them out.
Feel free to add more margin to them and don't bother if it's not perfect
as we sew it all, the real shape of our plushie will show up.
So don't bother if it's not perfect at this stage.
We'll pick one of the sides upside-down
we'll mark the eyes, nose, mouth and paws there.
this will serve as a guide when sewing it all.
so let's pick a needle and thread, I chose a thick blue thread...
that fits pretty well with orange...
then let's sew these details.
Concerning the eyes, I sew vertical and horizontal stripes
forming the eye shape (circles or squares)
The nose starts out as a triangle, then you'll have to fill it.
Then some simple stripes will make the mouth
As for the paws, first I sew them one way...
then I return the other way so that the stripes looks fuller
if I don't, the lines look broken. Maybe you'd like it that way, it's all a matter of choice.
I'd rather like you to make it the way you want.
Now we'll have to sew the whole body...
it's the most time consuming part if you don't have a sewing machine, like me.
You have to flip both sides and put them face to face...
think that eventually you'll flip it out again to see the results
This side we're sewing right now is the ugly part
we'll turn it over so the seams are kept inside.
I start sewing one side of the paw and I end up reaching the other paw
the bottom part will be kept open so I can flip it out and stuff it. It will be sewn from the outside.
So starting from one paw, we sew across the silhouette until we reach the other one.
Now you will understand why I said to put margins when doing the pattern or cutting it. It's easier to sew it up.
This part is done little by little, have some patience!
that's the way things are done.
The thread used for this part should be the same colour as the fabric...
Eventually, though it's not very noticeable, the thread may show up here and there when flipping it out.
In my case, being blue, it clearly shows up a bit.
Oh well, it's no big deal.
Once we're done, let's turn it over.
Now we'll be able to tell how it's going to look, I hope everything is right...
now it's stuffing time!
It's going to be really bland this time...
But I'll be giving some ideas for a better stuffing job.
Previously, I've stuffed other plushies with aromatic plants
First I let them dry, then I put them inside.
That will give our teddy bear a sweet scent
I also put good-luck charms inside...
things I like...
pieces of cloth...
some memento, I don't know, this adds some value to our plushie
even if you're the only one that knows what's inside
in case you're going to offer it as a gift, I mean
Still, I think it's something nice.
Nevertheless, even if mine is full of foam rubber, that doesn't make it less worthy than the others.
You'll have to insist on small parts like the ears
so the shape looks good
keep in mind that you may have to use a lot of stuffing material to achieve this puffy look.
if not, some ugly folds may appear...
and that doesn't look good...
now that we've reached the bottom part...
we'll sew it up from the outside
this is going to be the most visible part of the body's stitches
the ugly part of it
that's why you may want to use simmilar colours for the thread and fabric, unlike me.
Try to hide the final knot as much as possible...
and there it is
well, since it's winter right now, let's make a scarf for our bear
this time I'm going to use grey felt
I cut a strap of it, then I mark the length of the neck, adding some margin
I'll keep what's left of it so I can add an strap to the scarf later.
I'll be folding the upper part, since it doesn't look very well when cutting it...
then I'll sew it up.
I put glue on it so the fold sticks well when sewing it.
that way it's easier to do so.
then I'll sew both ends (to make the neck part of the scarf).
I take another strap and cut a fringe on one side
that will be glued to the neck part from the inside.
now it's time to fit this from the bottom part of the plushie...
the first teddy bear I made had tiny legs...
but this one has pretty big paws so I had a hard time fitting it in
but it wasn't an impossible task.
After putting it up, here it is.
Do you like it?
The materiales needed for this teddy bear plushie are:
Paper, pen, scissors, needle, thread (2 colours if possible)
plushie fabric, stuffing material (I already told you it varies depending on what you want)
felt for the scarf and a glue stick...
Oh... and PATIENCE, the key element of this work.
Well, I hope you liked this video...
Give it thumbs up, add it to favourites, share it with your friends
and all that crap we, youtubers, appreciate so much...
By the way, I already said it on the last video...
Anyway, by the time we'll reach 10.000 subscribers...
I'll be at the Vloggers Now! 2 showcase in Granada (Spain)
We will hold a raffle with very nice prizes...
And it's going to be great, so take a look at the Facebook event
(It brings together all the information about it)
So see you in the next video, or face to face in Granada!
See you then, bye bye!
