You know one of the common ailments and injuries that's becoming more frequent and common across
our country is carpal tunnel syndrome. Hi, I'm Captain Joe Bruni. And what I'm going
to talk about is how to avoid getting carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel syndrome is
an injury that normally frequently occurs from people using a keyboard all day long.
And is an injury that occurs in the wrist area. One of the ways to avoid this type of
injury is that if working at a computer for hours on end, is to raise your wrist to the
level of the keyboard. And your forearms to that level. Supporting the wrists with something
like a padded type of pad at the front of the keyboard level. If you can support your
wrists and your forearms and keep them at the level of the keyboard, this will help
reduce the strain and stress on the hand and wrist area. Also its a good idea, every hour,
to take a break and preform some type of stretching exercise. Let the hands hang down loosely
at the side. Shake off the tension. Place the arms straight out in front with the fingers
pointed up and stretch. Release that tension after about ten seconds. Roll your hands down
and form two fists and roll them down stretching the muscles in the forearm area, wrist and
hand areas. Shake off the excess stress and tension about once every hour. This will help
reduce the chances of contracting carpal tunnel syndrome. I'm Captain Joe Bruni. Stay safe.
And we'll see you next time.
