Holy Baptism -- The Sacraments
Welcome everybody! I'm Tomislav Roškaric, parish priest from Mala Nedelja.
This is the video about the sacrament of baptism. This is the first of seven videos that I'll be making on the sacraments.
If I only think of the number of those baptised by myself in the past few years - I'm not exaggerating if I say
there were around 200 of them, who were baptized in this so called »baptism corner« of our church, exactly with this baptism utensils.
And if I also think about all those people, relatives, friends who took part at baptism
celebrations, then this village would be way too small for all of them. --I'm sorry what's happening? I can't see. (Hahaha)
Holy baptism happens. -- Holy Baptism is the first and fundamental sacrament.
Weather young or old baptism is how God adopts us into the Church.
Church is not just the building made of stones.
We all are living stones who build the invisible Christ's Church.
I'm going to show you how this encient rite,
which is also very modern, happens.
But you have to bare with me, we the priests don't like pictures during the event. Too distracting.
Firstly a candidate for baptism is needed. Parents and godfathers present the child to the community.
Parents who of course have the right to raise their child according to their belief,
make a commitment to bring up their child in catholic faith.
That's why they make several promises on behalf of their child.
Namely to renounce evil spirit
and to believe and trust God and Jesus Christ.
And then everyone in the church promise to support them in their denouncements and belief. --Water is the central symbol at baptims.
Water is blessed after the longer prayer. The child is then baptised in the name of the Father, the Son and of the Holy Ghost.
The baptism is then sealed by the chrism consecrated by our bishop and all priests on Maundy Thursday.
This way the child is recieved into the body of Christ, he becomes God's child, a part of Kingdom of Heaven.
I hope this explanation of baptism doesn't make it any less great and misterious.
There are multiple layers of meaning to this. Baptism is full of content,
there are so many explanations, definitions of the sacrament.
It's a sign of being washed clean of our sins,
it's a sign of passing through water from the slavery to freedom,
it's a sign of sharing in Christ's death, --of being drowned --
but don't be affraid: old man is the one to be drowned,
but a new man is born into life.
We were healed through Chris's wounds, we ressurected with Him.
That's why there's always
an Easter Paschal Candle at the center of baptism rite.
So. I thank you all who bare with me on this.
I hope you'll joing me next time when the sacrament of holy mass will be presented.
Until then thanks for watching. I wish you all best!
And let's not forget that we're primarily baptised because God loves us.
And that's what's most important.
