Southeast Iowa woke up
to a blanket of deep snow Wednesday after major winter storm. Official
measurements put Ottumwa's
total at 6.5 inches, while areas just to the south got as much as eight
inches of snow. The first order of business for many was just digging out. Snow may be
over
but dangerously cold temperatures are about to arrive. National Weather Service
meteorologist
Kurt Kotenberg explains. The winds will decrease but air temperatures
will be very cold. We're looking around minus 10 to minus 15 degrees
for much of the state, including southeastern Iowa. So if you combine the wind speeds with the actual air temperatures
we'll have wind chills anywhere between around minus 25 to minus 30 degrees tomorrow morning.
Frostbite can occur within half an hour with any exposed skin.
