Television today has grown into a complex and often frustrating experience for many.
For example, most viewers spend 25% of their time browsing for content instead of watching.
So with more devices and more content choices, how can next generation TV become more enjoyable?
It all starts with intuitive interfaces designed specifically for each device. The Irdeto Multiscreen
solution embraces that approach and results in consumers finding content faster and spending
more time watching than searching. Our user experience concept is built around 3 main
navigation principles; it is natively adapted to the capabilities of a specific target device,
whether on TV, tablet, mobile or web; learns over time the consumer's preferences and provides
better recommendations; presents compelling visual content channels and allows sophisticated
sorting, filtering and profiling. An integral part of Irdeto Multiscreen is a pre-integrated
video content recommendation and targeting engine. It delivers highly personalized content
via TVs, PCs, or mobile devices. It extends viewer engagement and it will maximize the
revenue-generating potential of content assets. Content is sourced and targeted according
to service provider options and the viewer's profile, viewing behaviour and explicit inputs.
When we press the menu button on the remote control, we are presented with a set of icons
which appear on top of the TV programming. TV always runs in the background, making any
press of any button less intrusive. The Irdeto Multiscreen VOD solution is tailored specifically
to generate more revenue for operators. The strength of it is the high visual quality,
which encourages the end user to explore, engage and buy into the experience. The apps
for mobile and web in Irdeto Multiscreen are designed to enrich the end user with the same
seamless user experience and access as on TV. All apps are tailored to function optimally
on the dominant platforms, and each device is used sensibly and not just because it is
possible. A great example of an enhanced TV experience is the "my TV" area in Irdeto Multiscreen.
Here, you will find a mix of non-linear content, on demand and catch-up programming. You have
easy access to a well-organized archive of your content: all your favourite shows, movies
and recordings. Established user patterns deserve respect; we believe in evolution and
not a revolution in future broadcasting. Users have been zapping channels since the dawn
of TV; consequently, the most established user pattern of them all is channel up and
down. Still, we want to offer additional, improved ways to discover content. You have
the option to browse by content rather than channel. The user can choose to view a list
of recommended content that is available to them both from linear TV and other sources.
This way, you don't need to channel surf if you don't want to, and you don't need to leave
your current program to find other content that interests you. Another significant addition
is the channel grid. It is presented as an icon on the left side of the screen and it
gives the user a better overview of the channel list and allows you to navigate channels more
effectively. The explosion of interactive companion devices is by far the most exciting
development for operators and end users alike. Irdeto Multiscreen makes web and mobile devices
into a personal extension of what happens on the main screen. An integral part of the
interface design is our use of similar but optimized interaction principles on TV, tablet,
mobile and web. If you have used Irdeto Multiscreen on one platform, you will know how it works
on every other platform as well.
