My name's Zoe. And I grew up on a farm near Wagga Wagga, and now I live in Sydney.
I am in a bit of an interesting phase at the moment, my fiance and I have been integrating
our finances and buying a property together. And so we've been doing things like downloading
our bank statements and analyzing them and looking at reviewing our insurances and getting
all our last few years' tax returns together to apply for a loan. We're having some really
interesting conversations that we haven't had before.
I think it's really important that early on in your relationship as possible to have those
conversations. And even if you come from different financial backgrounds with different habits
and different management strategies I suppose. The earlier you talk and earlier you can set
up a system together there's going to be no conflicts in the future.
I mean generally women do take time off for caring or family responsibilities along the
way. We find the MoneySmart site a really independent and user friendly place to start
where ever you are. If you know how much you earn and spend each month and what you are
doing with the leftover; if you know what your system looks like and if you know sort
of what your net worth is now and what you want it to be, then it becomes clear and the
most important thing you need to do as an individual is know where you are at and where
you want to be.
