We did the same thing in the UK searching for miles to discover something new
leaving the areas near our home unexplored. "ask not what life has in store for you..."
we set out to discover
what our new home of chiang mai had to offer, arriving early to beat the crowds made the experience more serene.
we sat in silence watching the young monks go about their daily rituals
the colour of their robes blending into the surrounding walls, "but what you have in store for life"
with over 300 temples spread throughout the province
it seemed wise to start at the city centre
we spent an hour walking around the ancient chedi ruins
and enjoying the peaceful morning atmosphere
whatever you choose to believe in you can't help but
feeling immersed
in the spirituality of the surroundings
the sound of the bells and the flicker candles
made that feeling
of an authentic
asian experience
we watched the clouds forming over wat phra singh
chiang mais most popular Buddhist temple... " travel isn't all about the distance covered, but what is gained in the covered distance."
but chiang mai isn't just about ancient temples
people watching at buak had city park was a pleasant escape from the moat roads
on the southwest side of the moat surrounding the city
the park is a popular hotspot for Thais and tourists alike
to the east things got more hectic as we ventured into china town
Warorot Market was a hub of activity
full of foods materials and gifts
not far from our home we came across the ancient ruins of wiang *** kam
its remains mark where the old city of chiang mai was founded
another roadside gem is our local reservoir in Hang ***
we took photos there until the sun set... " discovery reveals itself to those that seek"
the next day we went hiking on the well known mountain of doi suthep
but we weren't visiting the busy temple that everyone goes to on the summit
what we wanted to discover was the lesser known temple named wat pha lat,
around half way up
on the trail there were orange robes wrapped around the trees trunks
it was perfect for photography
what we found was a peacefully tranquil area, with temples built around
statues and waterfalls
a new favourite location for me
to finish our adventures we headed for Huay Tung Thao
a man made lake on the outskirts of Chiang Mai. the sun was setting beautifully on the mirrored surface of the water
the moment was quite magical... "minutes will pass by swiftly, but moments will linger in memory"
we set out to prove to ourselves that we didn't need to travel miles to discover good places
and ended up discovering some local gems
that fast became new favourites
