At first I draw and then learned some basic printmaking skills.
Up till now, I am still using printmaking process primarily.
Since college, I like to touch on psychological issues,
such as autism, and psychedelic journey,
I also did a topic on deception for the college final project.
There is this figure that frequently appears on my works,
a deformed male figure in different poses.
What I like the most of printmaking is the repetition,
a transcendentality that pulls me deeper into the printmaking process.
I like to submerge myself in the themes that I work on.
Personally, I think an artist is someone who believes in what he is doing and keeps doing it,
whatever that means art for him.
Because that is what I am capable of doing,
just like I will not be able to be an accountant.
I do a lot of visual works, so I am capable of it. 16 00:01:55,15 --> 00:01:5809 When it comes to the art scene in ,Indonesia,
No, I do not have any preference as for whom I exhibit with or who the curator is.
I only wish to make arts, just keep doing it.
I believe my artworks will take me to where I should be.
So if my artworks are not welcomed somewhere,
they are welcomed elsewhere,
same goes for the audience.
On this BNE exhibition, I showcase 70 series of prints.
Titled "Abducted by Himself"
The theme was inspired from my mundane repetitive office job,
when I suddenly felt like I was captured.
I had always been well-synced with the whole art making process,
until I started the office job,
it was like being abducted by an unknown person,
who was actually my own ego.
That is the highlight of "Abducted by Himself"
It is a similar situation to the printmaking process,
I feel like being kidnapped by that process.
Being a husband pushed me to get a job,
been looking around for a job,
but I did not make a portfolio,
so I wrote everything I was capable of:
lithography, relief print, intaglio, and many other techniques.
And there was this French company that really like printmaking,
that company then hired me.
In that company, I managed the new printing division.
That was where I learned a lot about printing matters,
suppliers, and other things.
I got to know new potentials of printmaking that was not taught at college.
I personally think it still exists,
the fact that printmaking in Indonesia is seen as inferior to painting,
of originality, or that something on canvas has higher value.
After being in the printmaking field this long,
I could tell there is a huge potential in printmaking in the industrial field.
In the artistic industries, especially manual printmaking techniques.
I think most people have not realized that.
And I have not seen any major industrial approach towards printmaking yet,
A lot development from pop art, but not from the industry field.
I believe printmaking will thrive in the industry field.
I try to balance both business and passion,
let them go forward together.
So for example, my passion in printmaking leads to a very wild idea,
which can only be made into an artwork.
And on the business side, I am running a company in printmaking.
I will negotiate as long as no party is being disadvantaged.
In negotiating with others, I get to experiment.
And if that experiment results in something new and useful,
then I can share it with others, so why not?
So negotiation is fine as long as neither party is being disadvantaged,
nor myself, nor other people.
