So today we will be talking about how to detoxify your body. The very interesting part of detoxification
of the body is that the largest organ of excretion ot let's say detoxification is the skin. And
if you are able to detoxify through skin not only we get a glowing skin but we also get
a very supple and young or youthful skin because of the detoxification. So the process of detoxifying
the skin has actually many parts and if they are done in a sequential manner and done correctly
we can see that the whole body detoxifies very effectively. So the first thing is of
course that the body to detoxify needs a lot of liquids or water. Now what are the things
that we can drink during body detoxification? So they have to have a neutral PH. So things
like normal water that is excellent to drink. Water with little bit of lime juice is very
good. Watermelon you can have as much as you want. Muskmelon you can have as much as you
want. Similarly if you are having say sweet lime juice you need to dilute it with little
bit of water. Because concentrated sweet lime juice may not be effective for body detoxification.
Similarly a lots of fruits you can eat during body detoxification. But you must have along
with the fruit or after the fruits a little bit of water so that the body absorbs the
fruit very well. In body detoxification it's also very important to use some natural agents
which are cleansing for the intestine. Like for example oat bran, wheat bran. These are
the brans which help the intestine to cleanse and once the intestine cleanse the body also
leaves its toxins even in the intestine. So what you can do is you can make... you can
take a tea spoon of oat bran, you can take a teaspoon of "Triphala", and half a tea spoon
of wheat bran and you can stir this. Take it with lukewarm water and though it is a
little difficult to drink so if you wish you can add a little bit of apple juice in this
and drink it along with the apple juice. Aloe vera juice is another thing we should be defenitely
consumed during skin detoxification because that helps the intestine to coat and remove
all the impurities or all the old sluggish toxins which are there accumulated in the
intestine. So that is as far as what you can eat to detoxify. Now the process of detoxification
means that you have to eat all these products but you cannot eat normal food like roti,
rice, chicken or fish. So you cannot eat all of those products. You have to have liquids
on that day. The same day you have to have body massages. Now body massages are specific
massages which help in body detoxification. So one is called "Urvartana" which is with
Ayurvedic herbal powders. So there is Ayurvedic oil which is a detoxifying oil, medicated
oil. Then there is Ayurvedic medicated powder which are used in Urvartana. So in Urvartanam
two therapists actually massage with these powders and oils which helps you to start
getting the vessels or vessels just under the skin very active. So the entire lymph
channel which supplies you know... which takes away the food and supplies it to the rest
of the body that becomes activated. So all the lymph nodes, lymph channels become activated
and they start releasing their toxins through the skin. So there is rigorous massage with
these body oils and powders ayurvedic powders. After that the person is given steam in a
chamber. So Ayurvedic steam chambers are slightly different. They don't cover the head so they
are up till the head only... up till the neck. And you sit in the steam chamber with your
head outside and take body steam for about ten to fifteen minutes. In some cases who
are very obese can take it for twenty minutes also and when body steam is taken body starts
sweating profusely. And through this sweat all the toxins which are accumulated in the
lymph channels they start coming out. Now after this lymph channel the toxins have started
coming out then the body is cleansed with lukewarm water, with towel dipped in lukewarm
water and after that you can take herbal tea. Herbal tea is also without any caffeine. So
you can have Jasmine, you can have Camomile, you can have Rose tea. Basically there are
infusions these are not regular tea which help to cleanse the lymph channels. This procedure
of Urvartanam, steam and having liquids and natural organic liquids during the day, this
if you are in a panchkarma ashram then it is done over at least five to six days. But
if you are at home you can do it like once a week four times in a month. Which is once
every week into four times in a month. So this helps you to cleanse your body or detoxify
through your skin. Another thing which is very important to detoxify through your skin
is that during this process it is advisable not to use any creams or any lotions which
might have a lot of preservatives or chemicals. If you want to oil please use natural organic
oil, plant based oil to massage your body. And it is also very important to have bath
with lukewarm water and not cold water. Because detoxification of skin requires that the pores
should release all the toxins effectively even after the process has finished or Urvartanam
has finished. So taking a bath twice a day with lukewarm water is definitely recommended.
If in case you have neem growing around your house or if you can purchase neem then in
the bath water it is very important that half an hour before or just to the bath water say
about ten minutes before add neem oil or neem leaves and that will actually give you a very
cleanse skin which will also prevent any fungal infection and any other kind of skin infections
and help you to cleanse your body. Now cleaning your body like this which is a skin way of
cleaning your body a, gives you a very youthful skin. It helps you to get a better glow on
your face also though you are detoxifying your body but your face also starts glowing.
And thirdly it also improves circulation around the joints. So this procedure is highly recommended
during the winters and during the spring season. Because that is the time when it is easy to
detoxify the body very effectively.
