high school fine arts day is an event where we invite area high schools to
come to come and participate in it's kind of a multi fold process
they bring their own art in the morning
and they have they put up an exhibit of their own work we have one judge that
we brought in, we have honorable mention, third second, first
and then we have a best in show, overall
so that student wins a portfolio and some art supplies. we asked two
professional artists or people who are engaged in the arts on a daily basis
to give presentations
we had Mary Zering and from cedar rapids a cedar rapids uh...
multi-media artist
and tom homan whoss
uh... an artist and business owner of bonfire pizza in sabuela
And each of them gave a presentation
how they came to be doing what they're doing in their lives now
How they came to do what they love
The students were really engaged
Mary led a workshop kind using her
mixed media skills. students had a piece of eight by ten cardboard and
and then we found recyclable materials and made collages on cardboard which were
then
um...holes were punched in and they were attached with rings to a larger
stick so that we can hang on that kind of as a tapestry and tom
who is always building
something out of something else took these giants cardboard compressed
cardboard
tubes
and cut them into sections
and then those became the bottom
uh... the feet for a bench and then but a plank
recycled no doubt, plank of wood
that students could then do collage on top We try to bring students through the annual
clinton community college student exhibit and they vonte on
their people's choice award, which piece they like that so they get to vote too
I don't think there's anything else like this
