welcome to the accessing library databases tutorials to begin go to
the Luther Rice home page by typing lru.edu
and then click on the library link in the upper right corner
since we will be accessing databases
click on the login link
type in your student i_d_
and password
and then press enter
you'll know your login is successful when it changes to logout
in the middle of the screen you'll see links to various data bases
the first minute top says discover
journal articles, ebooks and more once you login you'll see galileo
scholar
and you will have the ability to enter your search criteria
or simply click on your
desired type, be it subject, databases journals
clicking back on the link to the Luther Rice home page the library
home page
we will look at other databases these letters A through Z
actually take you to databases that you can access offline
if you click on the
all databases link on the left hand menu
you will see a listing of over two hundred databases
these can be accessed either from this page
or
by clicking on the desired letter
and that it will position you
under the find articles linked you will find links to the ATLA database
EBSCO religion and philosophy, all of the ProQuest databases which include
ProQuest religion
and the Theological Journal Library
to access one simply click on it
the ATLA
EBSCO and E-books as we'll see later all run on the EBSCO platform
i clicked at EBSCO
and here we are
enter your search criteria
or you have the ability to
choose your databases
if you don't want religion and philosophy or if you
want additional ones
click on the link
and then
check the databases you want
click ok
and then when you click show all
you see the various data bases
this is true for ATLA
as well
the theological journal library is the more conservative of all of the journal
libraries
it has
various data bases here
journals that you can access click on the link
you'll see the journals that are available
you also have the ability to search
by author
and by search criteria
either in single or double quotes to search as a phrase
as well as by verse
to look for E-books click on the read and download E-books link
again this will take you into the EBSCOhost platform
and you know you're in the e-book collection because of the verbiage
here
again enter your search criteria
and then click search
you can click on a book
and you can look at it online and see the full text
or you can download this E-book
when we go back to the left hand menu
there will be other links of importance
the first one is the find journal articles and more
clicking on this link
we'll show you various data bases that you can access off-campus
one in particular is the Britannica Online
that one is also available
from the library home page
simply scroll down
to the lower portion of the screen
and click
Encyclopedia Britannica
the last link that i want to show you on the left side is Turabian writing and
citing
when you click on that link you will be able to look at the style manual
under citing helps and writing helps
as well as it working template that's in Word format click on the link it will
open and you can download it to your system
the last thing on the library home page is the calendar
at the bottom of the page here we have the four month calendar that is color coded
to display the hours that we are open
