Hi! Do you want to show your app idea
to somebody but don't know how?
Let's have a look at some easy ways to do this
The easiest way is drawing
Grab a pen, a piece of paper, and a plastic card from your wallet
This card is actually very close to the size
of a 4-inch screen
Let's add a status bar
a toolbar
back
and the view menu
Next we'll look at a tool called Balsamiq where you can sketch layouts
online and then share them
I add a header
The header graphics will come later but I can colour it blue already
And now I add all the stuff that I need
for a list item
A separator
two labels
and a Next icon
And I have the list icon ready here
I place the separator
and place the list icon there
Now some text
I add a title and the value
Location and Helsinki, Finland
And I align the text lines
Now I add the drill-down indicator
Next I copy the list element
I remove the second line
Give the item a new title
This is now Departing flights
And I replace the icon
This was also quite fast and easy going
And with drag and drop this is really easy
The simplicity of the software stops me
getting stuck with the unnecessary details
Now we're going to try Inkscape
The nice thing here is that you can use the
free Nokia stencil sets
Firstly, I will add a logo to the view
I prepared the company logo previously
so that I can use it right away
And I place it in the center of the header
I want more list items
so I mark one list item and copy it
Then I change the list item title to Arriving flights
And then I mirror the icon
Let's take a look at another commercial
solution: Adobe Illustrator
I want a fourth list item
so I copy one list item and place it
I change the title
and I replace the icon
I still need a search for the toolbar
so I add a magnifying glass as a toolbar icon
This will eventually launch the app search
And finally I want to add a nice
background which fits to the app
I place it here and resize it
And there is my background
This is how the views look when finished
with the different tools
So pick the method that is best for you
Do a few rounds of testing with your prototype
Update it in-between
And people will love your app!
