So, Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the United Nations,
has just completed a trip to Rwanda
and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
One is moved to ask, to what purpose?
When he was in Rwanda, did he say to President Kagame
that Rwanda had to stop supporting
the vile and violent rebel militia group called M23
that's murdering and raping women at will in the Congo?
Did he hold a press conference
and say that he had expert UN evidence
to show Rwanda's malicious involvement in the Congo?
Not a chance.
When he was in the Congo itself,
did he read the riot act to President Kabila
and tell him to order the Congolese soldiers
to stop murdering and raping women?
Are you kidding?
This never-ending killing and *** violence in the Congo
which has gone on for more than a decade
is one of the gravest failures of the United Nations.
It ranks with Syria.
No. In fact, it exceeds Syria.
What is needed is a UN force with firepower.
And the UN has promised to supply 3,000 soldiers for that purpose,
and they have delivered 100.
Mollifying words and high-level visits don't change anything.
We've seen that over the last many years.
