RefWorks Overview. In this video, you will learn how to access and use RefWorks,
an online program provided by the library. RefWorks is an online bibliographic management
program where you can store and organize citations, as well as create bibliographies. Johns Hopkins
University maintains an institutional subscription to RefWorks, which allows students and faculty
to use this online personal database for free. Starting from the library homepage, library.jhu.edu,
we can access RefWorks under Tools & Tips. Clicking on this link will redirect us to
the RefWorks page. A red and gray box will appear in the middle of the page. Follow this
link to login with your JHED ID and password. If this red box does not appear, you may need
to try a different browser or turn off your pop-up blocker. Some browsers may ask you
for permission to show only secure webpage content, click to see the red and gray box.
After logging in, you are redirected to your personal RefWorks account. As you can see,
I already a citation saved. RefWorks provides a variety of features, allowing you to import
citations straight from online databases, generate citations in a variety of citation
styles, organize your citations into project specific folders, and even generate a complete
bibliography. For information on how to use these features of RefWorks, we can take a
look at the RefWorks Guide. This page provides links to more videos and tutorials on how
to use RefWorks. You can access the RefWorks Guide from the Education Research Guides,
or from the library homepage. Additionally, if you need help with your citations, please
visit our Citing Sources Research Guide, available through tabs on the Research Guides, or from
the library homepage. This guide provides links to more information on the three most
frequently used citation styles. Choose the appropriate style from the tabs and follow
the links to learn more. The Citation Tools tab provides a variety of tools to help you
generate and manage your citations. In summary, RefWorks is a powerful online tool to help
you store and organize citations in multiple citation styles, including APA, Chicago, and
MLA. You can access it from off-campus, with your JHED ID and password. Please review the
Citing Sources Guide and RefWorks Guide to learn more information.
