According to the Global Footprint Network humanity has exceded the Earth´s natural threshold this year.
That is, the planet begins to run an overdraft of its biocapacity.
The Earth Overshoot Day is the day when human demand on natural resources surpasses
what nature can renewably supply, and in 2011 it has approached faster.
The average area per person worldwide is approximately 1.8 hectares.
Costa Rica has around 1,9 HA because the population is smaller, because we have National Parks etc etc
Yesterday was a day in which we exceeded what we should have consumed this year.´
Fundacion Neotropica calls for people not to exceed the use of natural resources unnecessarily.
Estimates indicate that in 2011 humanity will use 135% of the resources that planet can regenerate in a year.
This means that eventually, and it is estimated by the specialists of Global Footprint Network,
we will need more than one planet to live, more than one planet that we have now.
To solve the high demand on resources we would need between 1,2 and 1,5 planet earth.
