On September 21 armed men attacked visitors at the fashionable Westgate shopping center in the Kenyan capital.
Responsibility for the attack was taken by the group "Al-Shabab", associated with the international terrorist organization "Al- Qaeda".
On Tuesday, September 24, Kenya's Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the evacuation of all the hostages and the capture of the shopping center by special forces.
According to recent figures, 67 people were killed, 6 of them were representatives of special services, and the rest - the civilians.
Unfortunately, this drama is not over yet. We receive information about new threats of "Al-Shabab " and of its new actions in two cities in Kenya and on the border of Somalia.
The motivation of the terrorists remain the same: Kenya must withdraw its troops from Somalia.
Mohammad Handulle, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Somalia to the Russian Federation
I want to say that "Al-Shabab", by itself, in terms of the name, it's in Arabic, it is not ours, not the Somali language, and Harakat al-Shabab is also a movement in Arabic, therefore, it is not ours, it is from abroad.
This is mainly the results of the Cold War. These are people who used to fight in Afghanistan, in Russia itself, they live in many countries, but because of our insecurity in Somalia, they found a hearth where they can develop.
Unfortunately, our government, law enforcement organizations and police organizations do not yet have a full opportunity to destroy these organizations.
But with the help of our neighbors and with the help of the African Union very much has been done, and today they are almost a non-existent organization.
It's like a fruitless attempt to distinguish themselves.
Rather, it is like a show. However, it is quite sad, these are people's lives.
They fight in Somalia. Most of our religious people believe: this group is not religious in nature. If Somalia is a Muslim state, why are they killing Somalis?
Therefore, they are not religious in nature.
Why are they fighting against us, against their own people? Because they are strangers.
And unleashing additional conflict in Somalia with neighboring countries is their goal.
Therefore, the international community, I think, as was evident by the reaction of Russia and the expression of condolences to the people of Kenya and the Government of Kenya by President Putin, this proves that this is a common problem.
I want you to understand that this issue should be resolved together.
As ambassadors of our region, we believe there should be cooperation between law enforcement organizations in our country and your organizations, so that we could do something so that there will be no "Al-Shabab" or "Al-someone else", either in Moscow or in Mogadishu and Nairobi.
