Hi, this is Sean Hobson, for Expert Village. What we want to talk about in this clip is
keeping our receivers from being hit or tackled. The main way to do that is you never want
to be a sitting target. You never want to receive the ball, catch the ball and stay
put or you're going to get hit hard. As a receiver, as soon as you make the catch you
want to turn yourself up field to try to pick up positive yardage. Or, you want to catch
the ball, feel where the defensive back is coming from and run out around him. Or, you
want to turn up field and make some kind of juke move. But you never want to be standing
flat footed. We'll walk through it and then we'll do it at full speed (video demo). Our
receiver is going to run a little slant pattern, he's going to come through, and when he catches
the ball he never wants to catch the ball and be a standing target. He wants to catch
the ball, turn and look up field and either go to one side or the other, or cut it up
field. He never wants to be a sitting target. Now let's try to do it at full speed with
our defensive back closing and keeping him moving (video demo). He caught the ball and
instantly turned it up field because he felt pressure of somebody coming in to make a tackle.
Never be a sitting target. Catch the ball and move, hopefully, in a positive direction
to score a touchdown.
