For Complex News, I'm Hanuman Welch and since the runaway success of Captain America: Civil
War and the breakout performance of Chadwick Boseman as the Black Panther, fans have been
clamoring for more from the king of Wakanda.
Earlier this week it was revelaed that Lupita N'Yongo was in talks to join the cast of the
standalone Black Panther film, possibly as T'challa's sister Shuri. That news was followed
by the report that Michael B. Jordan could also be joining the cast of Black Panther
which would reunite him with Creed director Ryan Coogler who's also helming the panther
film for Marvel. Jordan's rumored to be playing a villian in the movie and the smart money
would be Jordan playing Killmonger, one of the the Black Panther's recurring big bads.
Naturally this news was met with celebration by Twitter as the hashtag #BlackPantherSOLIT
began trending and didn't let up for the better part of 24 hours. Much of the excitement coming
from fans who will be getting a marvel movie that's said to feature a cast that's 90 percent
African or African-American, including a black director, but also serves as a laundry list
of things people need to be prepared for when Black Panther finally opens.
And if you're not reading Ta-Nehisi Coates and Brian Stelfreeze's current run on the
Black Panther, issue #2 dropped earlier this week. Black Panther is definitely having a
moment. That's all for now but for all the rest of your comic book to movie adaptation
