A Tale of Two Travelers
We start somewhere in Europe, in a corner of Romania,
where Theron and Sarah LaBounty arrive for the first time in their lives.
They didn't arrive just to have fun. They came with a clear purpose.
That is, to teach the children of Pașcani the language of Shakespeare.
It was not a small surprise that in Dracula's country,
where they prepared to find ?? on two legs
they discovered a land of fairy tales,
with amazing people
and strange traditions.
Step by step, those who came to teach others have become students in their own turn,
learning the language of the Romanian people, and their traditions
They learned to prepare recipes in the Romanian homemade style.
They succeeded with homemade bread,
the tastiest sarmale (cabbage rolls),
or the most colorful,
and of course the smallest "smalls" (a type of sausage).
They succeeded to learn just how to have fun Romanian style.
They didn't miss a single anniversary,
baptism,
or wedding to which they were invited.
With time, they made relationships not just with people,
but also with Romanian animals.
So, they had a passion for dogs,
goats,
horses,
cows,
and even birds.
And another thing - they traveled so much in Romania
that they were able to know this country
even better than many of they people that live here.
And they succeeded at something else as well -
to be loved by the children
because they tried to do more than what was initially proposed.
Outside the English classroom
they organized a photography club,
a Java software club,
and they brought books from the whole world for the students.
They spent time with the students on field trips,
contests,
and summer camps.
These foreigners who arrived in Pașcani,
Sarah and Theron LaBounty,
managed to become close friends to many of us.
Now, when their service in Romania is near to the end,
we don't want to be separated from them
without telling them one more time
that we thank them from the bottom of our hearts
for everything that they were able to do for us.
In the end we would like to ask one thing -
wherever you go, and however much time passes
that you don't forget that
you have many friends waiting for your return.
