With only four days until a catastrophic default, the House continues to waste
time.
It’s really time that
they legislate.
As we know,
they're having trouble doing that.
They’ve changed this so many times it should be fairly easy to get the votes now.
They’ve basically given the right wing even more than what they had before.
It’s clearly not bipartisan, and when you look closely at, it's not right for
America.
Because in negotiating with the most extreme voices in his caucus,
he is now moving to positions that are almost indescribable.
He throws piece after piece after piece of red meat
to the right wing lion
that seems to dominate his caucus.
Well it's time he tamed that lion for the good of the country.
Well, there has to be another way,
and the way to approach this in a responsible bipartisan way,
is to start
with Majority Leader Reid’s suggestion.
That we come together on a bipartisan basis in the Senate.
He is offering his measure and
an olive branch to Senator McConnell and the Republicans to work together.
It’s time to come to a bipartisan solution
to move us to a longer period of time so that we can get back and get on track,
bring certainty to our businesses, to our families, to all of this country, and
start moving us towards the goal of creating jobs and getting our economy
back on track. The people that we all represent
want us to come together in a bipartisan method.
Compromise is not a bad word.
So it's time for us act together, and we hold our arms out to my Republican
colleagues to visit with me and
talk to me how we can strengthen my legislation.
I hope that Senator McConnell will join him.
I hope that we can find that path forward.
We do not want to put America through this every three, four, five, or six months.
We owe it to the people we represent
and to the economy
and to the Constitution to do much better. Only the Senate plan
provides hope
for a way out of this impasse.
Later today,
Senator Reid will set in plan
a motion
for a late weekend vote on the Senate plan.
Since it will be the last train leaving the station, we expect Senate Republicans
to give it a long,
careful, look.
A yes vote
is a vote to be responsible.
A no vote
will be a vote
for economic catastrophe.
