Tracking software helps man locate laptop thief
Gothca!
How was this American laptop computer thief
supposed to know that his every move
was being captured by this stolen laptop.
Because of this he was caught.
The computer's owner is California designer Joshua Kaufman.
In March a thief cleaned out his house
and stole his computer.
Kaufman reported the crime to the police to no avail.
Kaufman had installed theft-tracking software
called Hidden.
Once the software is installed,
you simply go online and register the loss of your computer.
When the computer is turned on
Hidden activates the computer's camera
and automatically takes pictures.
It also records Web sites visited.
Then it sends this information to the owner.
It is also equipped with location-positioning software.
The owner can take this information to the police.
Using the computer's IP address the police
on Tuesday found this alleged burglar.
The police think the software's great.
