The biggest tech news in recent months happened yesterday and that was that Microsoft just
revealed their new console, 8 years after the XBOX 360. Called the XBOX One, it is up
against the PlayStation 4 in a battle of next-gen consoles. Here is a look at the XBOX One.
The XBOX One features a new 500-GB hard drive with finally a custom-built Blu-ray--capable
optical drive. It also has an 8 core processor with 8 GB of RAM, HDMI in and out and multiple
USB 3.0 ports. Microsoft says the Xbox One will be delivering 8 times the graphic performance
of the 360. It isn't alone though as it was revealed with
a new Kinect which has a 1080p camera that enlarges the sensor's field by 60 percent.
The camera can also capture video at 60 frames per second for two-way services like Skype.
It is a whole new Kinect and better than any device like it.
The controller, too, has noticeably changed with the hump-like battery pack completely
gone. It also swaps the odd circular directional pad with a more precise cross-shaped one.
Not much else has changed but apparently inside there have been about 40 changes.
All Xbox One consoles will come with a Kinect and one controller.
So, many have talked about the shape of the Xbox as being like a 'VHS recorder' and it
is basically a good looking box. But to me looks don't matter and this new look makes
it easier to stack up as many people do. I have mixed opinions of the name as I would
liked it to be called the Xbox Infinity but Microsoft did have a solid reason; that it
is the ultimate all-in-one experience. And that is what it is. Long gone are the days
where you bought a console to play games on it. Now Microsoft has seen the opportunity
to further their audience with making it work as a TV box, Blu-ray player and Skype as well
as more. It is not only for the gamer but now for the family and is a more adult console.
So far we have seen some games like Forza and the new Call of Duty being shown in the
Xbox reveal but more games are to come at E3. And the announcement about the 15 new
exclusive games has hyped it even more. Another big feature is the voice control. It is super
smooth and fast and seems like it works as a always listening box. We will see if the
Xbox One can rival the PlayStation 4 at E3 in June.
