On behalf of expertvillage.com, my name is Stan and I'm here to tell you about community
theater. Once you have the play cast, then it's time to set the rehearsal schedule. The
important thing there is to make it convenient for the actors if you possibly can. It's important
to divide up the scenes into which ones involve which actors so that you can try to make it
efficient. You don't want people coming to rehearsals and they're on stage for 2 minutes
and sitting around the whole rest of the evening. You want to try and rehearse scenes that have
common groups of actors in them so you can make it efficient so they don't necessarily
have to come every night if they're not in all the scenes. You want to schedule it at
a time when everybody can get there so that you're not waiting around for people because
you've scheduled it too early and somebody's always 15 minutes late. I think it's important
too to get a sort of a commitment from the actors right up front that they will show
up to rehearsals, they will call you if they're not going to come. The other cast members
get very disturbed when people are late, people aren't showing up, and so on, so you want
to make sure that these cast members the commitment they're making. To be on time, to let you
know if they can't make it and that sort of thing so that you can plan.
